A Chaminade student from Brightwaters recently got the pope’s attention - and a blessing - during a recent trip.
Harrison Voorhees and his family were at the Coliseum in Rome on Wednesday during a vacation in Italy.
At the last minute, they changed their plans and decided to try and get a glimpse of the pope.
That decision turned into a once-in-a-lifetime experience for Voorhees, who caught the attention of Pope Leo by yelling out “Chaminade” and “Long Island.”
The pope repeated “Long Island” and gave a blessing.
“Never in a million years would I expect that day I was going to have a conversation with the pope. I thought he was just going to be a dot in the distance," said Voorhees. "I will remember this moment for the rest of my life."
