The man accused of killing another man and shooting a Suffolk police officer has been indicted on a new charge.
Nieves Reyes is facing a new weapons charge as well as murder and three counts of attempted murder of a police officer.
Reyes is accused of chasing Eugene Allen, 66, with a machete and then shooting and killing him on New York Avenue in Bay Shore last week.
During the investigation, authorities say Reyes shot a Suffolk police officer in the face and opened fire on several others.
“What we have here is a malicious, ruthless and savage attack that occurred for absolutely no good reason at all,” said Suffolk DA Ray Tierney.
News 12 has been told the officer who was shot is recovering and doing well.
