A kitten is safe and sound after being rescue in Hempstead, where it fell nearly 20 feet into a sewer.
Residents on Henry Street reported hearing faint meowing coming from beneath a sewer grate. Upon investigation, they discovered a kitten trapped below and quickly alerted Long Island Cat/Kitten Solutions.
Using a long-handled net, rescuers were able to carefully lift the kitten to safety. The kitten, now named Henrietta, is estimated to be about six weeks old.
She is being evaluated by a veterinarian and will soon be available for adoption.
